Mitsubishi has released sketches of a lightweight four-wheel-drive concept car that is powered by a diesel engine – and the production version could go on sale in Europe.
The Concept-RA, which will be unveiled at the Detroit motor show in January, is powered by a 202bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine.
It uses Mitsubishi's latest engine technology and meets America and Europe's stringent emission regulations.
The four-wheel-drive system combines the car's electronic driver aids to provide maximum grip at all times.
The bodywork is made of an aluminium spaceframe and resin body panels, ensuring weight is kept to a minimum.
Although Mitsubishi officials have refused to comment, insiders suggest the sportscar could be a forerunner for a new Eclipse coupe, which could go on sale in Europe.
