The Mitsubishi Concept-cX will showcase the company's vision of an environmentally friendly 4x4 at this year's Frankfurt motor show.
The car will be powered by a 1.8-litre diesel and feature a toned-down version of the Outlander's electronic four-wheel-drive system. A newly developed turbocharger will improve efficiency, while the Euro V-compliant engine will reduce pollutants.
Mitsubishi's twin-clutch transmission will be used, again increasing efficiency and therefore lowering the amount of pollution emitted, and much of the interior trim materials will be made from eco-friendly 'Green Plastic'.
Mitsubishi has set out its environmental goals in a scheme called the Environment Initiative Program 2010. As a result it plans to develop Euro V diesels in Europe, a new electric vehicle for use in Japan and a flexible fuel vehicle for Brazil.
It also plans to increase the amount of 'Green Plastic' used in its cars and develop more energy efficient manufacturing and recycling procedures.
