This is the first picture of the mean, green Mitsubishi Concept-RA, to be shown to the public at the Detroit motor show in January.
The Concept-RA promises to combine hot-hatch performance with diesel economy, thanks to its 2.2-litre diesel engine. The high-tech unit produces 201bhp and 310lb ft of pulling power.
Performance figures haven't been released yet, but that should be enough muscle to cover the 0-60mph sprint in around seven seconds.
A new catalytic converter system, which deals with nitrous oxide (Nox) and particulate emissions, means the Concept-RA should be clean as well as quick, while an aluminium construction has been used to keep weight down. This should benefit economy as well as agility.
A wide range of electronic driver aids, which are already on the Lancer Evo X, further boost the Concept-RA's dynamic ability.
Although officially it's just a concept car, a production version is on the way. Whether it will come to the UK largely depends on the response the car receives.
So, if you like what you see, start lobbying your Mitsubishi dealer now.
