Mixed results in new Euro NCAP tests - Jeep Grand Cherokee

23 November 2005
Overall occupant protection 4/5 stars
Front impact 56%
Side impact 89%
Child protection 71% 3/5 stars
Pedestrian 0% 0/4 stars

The driver experienced high chest loads in frontal impact tests. The driver and passenger also face the risk of leg injuries in the Grand Cherokee.

Side-impact results are far better, however, and provide the lion’s share of the overall four out of five star occupant rating.

Both children were considered to be well protected and were both seated in Britax Duo Plus seats.

No cushioning was found to have been provided to pedestrians or other vulnerable road users by the Jeep. Euro NCAP awarded zero points and zero stars for its lack of effort in this area as a result. It is only the fourth car ever to receive no marks in pedestrian protection trials.
