Mixed results in new Euro NCAP tests - Mitsubishi Colt

23 November 2005
Overall occupant protection 4/5 stars
Front impact 56%
Side impact 72%
Child protection 61% 3/5 stars
Pedestrian 19% 1/4 stars

Overall occupant protection in the Colt was judged to be good, but frontal-impact results were not particularly strong. A spot-welded seam in the driver’s footwell ruptured.

Side-impact results were better, but the driver still faces the risk of chest and pelvic injuries in the car.

Both the 18-month and three-year-old dummy were placed in Britax Duo Plus seats for the child-protection tests. The head of the three-year-old showed a significant amount of movement, but overall the loads measured by Euro NCAP were satisfactorily low.

Few areas of the bumper or bonnet provided any cushioning for pedestrians, so the Colt only scraped through with the minimum one-star rating in these trials.
