Mixed results in new Euro NCAP tests - Volkswagen Fox

23 November 2005
Overall occupant protection 4/5 stars
Front impact 88%
Side impact 78%
Child protection 86% 4/5 stars
Pedestrian 33% 2/4 stars

Front-impact protection is the Fox’s forte, with no rupture of the footwell, little pedal movement and no contact with the steering wheel by the driver.

A risk of chest and pelvic injury let the VW down in side-impact tests, but results are still very good.

Child protection is also a key part of the Fox’s armoury. Head movement and chest protection in both front- and side-impact crashes were judged to be good. Fair Bimbo seats were used for both children.

The centre and rear of the bonnet provided some cushioning to pedestrians, but otherwise the Fox offered little protection in this regard.
