NEW RS6 EMBARGO 5 SEPT 2007

These are the first pictures of the new Audi RS6 Avant, the most powerful road car the firm has ever built.

The car is powered by a 571bhp 5.2-litre V10 twin-turbo petrol engine. It accelerates from 0-62mph (100kph) in 4.6 seconds and hits 125mph (200kph) in 14.9 seconds.

The engine is fitted to a six-speed tiptronic gearbox.

Stopping power is provided by 19-inch steel brakes as standard, although a more efficient ceramic system is available for buyers who opt for 20-inch wheels.

Ride, grip and handling are enhanced by permanent four-wheel drive, electronic stability control and sports suspension with Dynamic Ride Control, the damping system that was introduced on the RS4.

Buyers also have the option of an additional three-stage damping system that allows the driver to change the suspension set-up according to the road conditions and his or her driving style.

Standard equipment includes heated front and rear seats, a tyre pressure monitor and a parking warning system. It has 1660 litres of luggage space.

The car will go on public display for the first time at next week's Frankfurt motor show.

It will go on sale in April 2008 in Germany priced at 101,750 Euros.

Although no date has been confirmed, it is expected to go on sale shortly after that in the UK, priced at around £70,000.
