Car thieves have rich pickings worth £3.3 billion as most motorists leave valuables in their cars.

A new survey by Post Office Car Insurance has found that 95% of motorists leave items unattended in their cars, many leaving them on display for thieves to window shop.

The survey found that, on average, motorists leave £134-worth of goods in their car, with CDs topping the table of most commonly left items.

The research also revealed some of the unusual items that have attracted the unwanted attention of thieves, including bowling balls, air fresheners and nappies.
