New 2013 BMW Z4 unveiled

The 2013 BMW Z4 roadster has been unveiled ahead of its official debut at the 2013 Detroit motor show in January. The updated Z4 gets subtle cosmetic tweaks and a new entry-level engine. It goes on sale in March.

Exterior cosmetic changes are limited to new headlight lenses, side indicator repeater trim and optional alloy wheels.

The interior gains high-gloss black surrounds for the air vents and iDrive controller. A new wood trim option has been added and a new Design Pure Traction option pack includes Alcantara interior trim, with contrasting orange panels and stitching.

A new entry-level sDrive18i model will join the range; it has a 154bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with average economy of 41.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 159g/km.

Most of the Z4's six-cylinder engines gave way to four-cylinder units in 2011; the rest of the engine line-up is unchanged.

Prices for the 2013 BMW Z4 are yet to be confirmed. We'd expect a small increase for most models, although the new entry-level model should drop the starting point to around 29,000.
