New Audi R8 unveiled
Changes to the Audi R8 range include mechanical and cosmetic upgrades, a new seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox and the addition of a new R8 Plus model at the top of the range.
The cosmetic updates include new LED lights; the rear lights also incorporate indicators with a 'dynamic display', where the light moves towards the outside edge of the car, in the direction the driver is turning.
A redesigned front bumper and grille, new R8 logo and a restyled rear diffuser are also added. An optional front splitter is also available, made from carbonfibre-reinforced plastic.
The biggest change to the Audi R8 line-up is the addition of a new R8 Plus model. It uses a 542bhp version of the V10 engine, and is available only as a coupe.
It accelerates to 62mph in just 3.5 seconds when combined with the new seven-speed S tronic automatic gearbox, while the manual 'box is only marginally slower at 3.8 seconds.
The S tronic transmission replaces the R tronic gearbox, and is the only automatic option now available to R8 buyers. As well as offering increased performance in the R8 Plus, Audi claims the new gearbox reduces CO2 emissions by 22g/km. It also reduces 0-62mph times by 0.3sec on both the entry-level V8 (4.3sec) and the V10 (3.6sec).
The engines in the V8 and V10 remain otherwise unchanged. More details of the updated Audi R8 are expected later today.
