BMW's Z4 Coupe has been given the go-ahead, and will arrive in UK showrooms next summer.

The manufacturer unveiled a concept version of the car at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September, and announced today that it will be pressed into production.

Prices are likely to start at around £32,000 for a model powered by BMW's excellent 261bhp 3.0-litre petrol engine. Expect a 0-62mph time of comfortably under six seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph.

If you want to give the new Porsche Cayman coupe a run for its money, BMW will also offer the Z4 M Coupe.

For £42,000, the M Coupe will provide 338bhp from its 3.2-litre engine and snap its way to 62mph in les than five seconds. Top speed will remain a limited 155mph.

The steel roof of the Coupe will make it stiffer than the Roadster, so it should, as a result, offer even sharper handling than the already able open-top car.

• BMW face-lifts the Z4 roadster next spring and will also add the hot 338bhp M version to the range for around £38,000.
