The new Aveo supermini will cost from around £9500 and Chevrolet says a hot-hatch version could be built.
Unlike the current model (which is available in both three- and five-door version), the Aveo will now be available in the UK only as a five-door hatchback. A four-door saloon will be sold in other countries.
The latest Aveo is an all-new model, based on a platform that will go on to form the basis of the next Vauxhall Corsa. It's slightly longer and wider than current model, with a bigger boot.
On sale in the UK from September, the new car will come with a choice of 1.2-, 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol engines, as well as A 1.3-litre turbodiesel engine with engine stop-start technology. Power outputs range from 69bhp to 113bhp, with CO2 emissions from 119g/km to 156g/km. The most economical engine is the 85bhp version of the 1.2, which averages more than 55mpg.
Hot model and eco-version
The range will eventually include a sub-100g/km model, and a spokesman hinted that there was also a strong possibility of a hot version along the lines of the RS concept that was shown at the 2010 Detroit motor show.
Full prices and specifications will be confirmed in July, but we'll have our first drive verdict on the car here on whatcar.com later today.
