A powerful and economical new diesel engine has arrived for the Peugeot 407.
Jointly developed by Citroen and Ford, the 2.2-litre uses a pair of turbochargers to provide an output of 170bhp and strong economy on the combined cycle.
Available in Sport trim, it costs £21,100 in the saloon or £22,300 in the SW estate, so it's £1500 more than the 136bhp 2.0-litre.
The 2.2-litre brings the saloon from 0-62mph in 8.7sec, 1.1sec quicker than the 2.0-litre, but combined economy only slips 1.6mpg on the combined cycle to 46.3mpg.
