A new, cheaper version of the Porsche Cayman goes on sale at the end of July for £36,220.

The newcomer is £7710 cheaper than the existing Cayman S and uses a 2.7-litre engine in place of its brother's 3.2-litre unit.

With an output of 245bhp, the Cayman is 50bhp less powerful than the Cayman S. Its 0-62mph time is 0.7 seconds slower, but the car still reaches 62mph in just 6.1 seconds.

Top speed also drops from 171mph to 160mph, but fuel economy improves by 3.8mpg on the combined cycle to 30.4mpg.

A five-speed manual gearbox is used in place of the six-speed transmission on the Cayman S. The six-speed gearbox is available as an option, together with the active suspension system, which features a lowered ride height and sport program for sharper responses.

Alloy wheels drop an inch to 17 inches, but stability control, six airbags, air-conditioning and a CD stereo remain as standard.
