They still might be three or so years away, but we've got a look into the future of the next Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra.
The two manufacturers will already be working on the replacements for the current Focus and Astra, so our artists have come up with these computer-generated images of the keen rivals.
The Ford images show how the three-door Focus could become far more of a coupe, like the existing Astra three-door, and adopt design cues previewed in concept cars such as the Iosis, seen at this January's Detroit Motor Show.
The Vauxhall pictures, which feature the Opel badge used on the Continent, reveal a development of the current car's looks, with even larger headlights that wrap around the front of the car.
On the inside, a central spine running along the length of the roof could be used to create aircraft-style stowage compartments in the cabin, as has already been seen on current Vauxhalls.
Both cars are expected to go on sale in 2009.
