New Ford Ka revealed - The engines - now

08 September 2008
The collaboration with Fiat has allowed Ford to drop the ancient 1.3- and 1.6-litre engines in the current Ka and substitute them with more modern Italian units.

Initially there will be just two options – a 69bhp 1.2 which takes the place of the identically-powered 1.3 but is 21% more economical, and – for the first time – a diesel.

This is the acclaimed 75bhp 16-valve 1.3-litre turbodiesel that Fiat badges JTD but that will be re-christened TDCI in the Ford.

It gives the new Ka a combined economy potential of 67.3mpg.

Both engines are comfortably below the Holy Grail CO2 figure of 120g/km.
