The new Jeep Cherokee will be revealed at the Frankfurt motor show, before it goes on sale in the UK in May 2008.
Powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine, buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic gearbox.
Handling has been improved by new front and rear suspension, as well as refined steering.
The Cherokee has been given a design overhaul in order to hark back to its earlier, more rugged look.
Interior boot and storage space has also been increased, as has seat comfort. A full-length canvas roof is available as an option.
Safety provisions include stability control, traction control, side curtain airbags and tyre pressure monitors.
Prices will be announced nearer the launch date.
