We've been here already: a new car with a better interior than anything that's gone before.
With this third-generation Renault Laguna, there really had to be a big step forwards, though.
Not only are general standards soaring, but Renault has committed itself to ensuring every new car it brings out is in the top three in its class for quality, so the look, feel and quality of the cabin was fundamental.
It doesn't stop there, however. Renault had a maximum five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating to protect - the current Laguna was the first car to achieve a top score for front impact protection - and the new one is expected to be even sturdier.
Renault was also aware the Laguna had slipped well down the ratings for driver satisfaction, and has been hard at work there.
