The design of the new Land Rover Defender has been finalised, and it is set to spawn a family of premium vehicles built to deliver class-leading durability.
However, no date has been set for when the new car will be shown. Although the current Defender will go off sale in 2015, the new car is unlikely to go on sale immediately while Jaguar Land Rover gears up for production of new vehicles including the Jaguar XE and Land Rover Discovery Sport.
Insiders say the new Defender does not closely resemble the DC100 concepts that were shown in 2011, but has been 'informed' by them.
'We wouldn’t have got to where we are today without producing those concepts, but it’s fair to say that the production car will not closely resemble them,' said one.
