The refreshed Lexus IS goes on sale next week, with models costing £700-£1000 less than the equivalent outgoing versions.

Revisions include a mild exterior and interior styling face-lift, minor handling adjustments, a revised diesel engine, a trim overhaul and a new sat-nav system.

The revised 175bhp 2.2-litre diesel engine is available in the IS 220d. It produces the same power as before, but emissions have been reduced from 168g/km of CO2 to 163g/km, moving it down a VED road tax band - saving £25 a year. Company car tax payers will also be charged 23% benefit in kind, down 1% from before.

There will be three trim levels: SE, SE-I and SE-L.

All levels will receive a new device that co-ordinates all of the car's safety systems, ensuring optimum performance. All cars will also get folding rear headrests, to improve visibility.

Entry-level SE models will now get suede-effect upholstery. SE-I models will add front and rear parking sensors to the base trim. Top-trim SE-L models will get 18-inch alloys as standard.

The improved sat-nav system will cost £1825, and is available with a 14-speaker stereo system on SE-L models for £2710.

Cars fitted with the six-speed automatic gearbox can also be specified with a new paddle-shift function.

Styling changes include a new front bumper, front grille, door mirrors and lamp clusters. A new design of 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels is also available. Inside, changes are limited to redesigned switchgear and different upholstery colours.
