A new-look What Car? magazine goes on sale this Thursday - and is spearheaded by an exclusive first UK drive of the new Jaguar XE in a head-to-head comparison test with the BMW 3 Series.

The two-car test is the centrepiece of the March issue, and delivers the definitive first verdict - including our independent test data and assessment on every type of UK road - on the much-vaunted Jaguar XE and BMW 3 Series showdown.

In addition to the normal array of first drives, tests and insider buyer’s information, the March issue features a number of changes in response to requests from readers, and which are aimed at increasing the focus on the key areas that have been identified as helping new-car buyers research their next purchase.

This includes the addition of more data at the back of the magazine; almost twice as much is now included, as well as longer test verdicts and larger pictures throughout.

New cars driven for the first time this month include the Skoda Fabia Estate, Ford Focus, Peugeot 308 GT, Honda CR-V and Ssangyong Tivoli. Our readers also rate the new Subaru Outback.

In addition to the Jaguar XE and BMW 3 Series showdown, our comparison tests pit the new Ford Mondeo, new Volkswagen Passat and Volvo V60 against each other, the new Ford Focus against the Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Golf, plus the new Lexus RC F against the BMW M4.

Furthermore, the magazine continues to champion the cause of consumers through its Helpdesk pages, and highlight Target Price - the most you should pay for your new car - for every car on sale in the UK. It also gives the best guide to real-world MPG testing through our independent True MPG test figures.

What Car? magazine is on sale from this Thursday, 5 February, or you can save money with print or digital subscription offers at The Magazine Shop
