New Mitsubishi Lancer: more details

29 August 2007

Mitsubishi has released a few more details about its Lancer small family car, which will be launched at the Frankfurt motor show on September 11.

Three engines will be available from launch. For petrol buyers, there's a 107bhp 1.5-litre motor driving through a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox, or a 141bhp 1.8-litre unit linked to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed CVT gearbox.

Diesel buyers can opt for a 138bhp VW-sourced 2.0-litre turbodiesel with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Safety features include driver and passenger airbags, a driver's knee airbag, plus side and curtain airbags.

There's also a swivelling headlight system to improve the driver's field of vision at night, and rain-sensitive wipers.

Prices and trim details haven't been released yet, but there will be paddle-shifts behind the steering wheel for owners with the CVT gearbox, and a premium Rockford Fosgate sound system will be offered.
