Mitsubishi's new Outlander will reach the UK in spring 2008.
The new Outlander is due to be unveiled at the New York International Automobile Show in April, but British buyers will have to wait two years until the car arrives in Europe.
Mitsubishi claims that the revisions to the Outlander mean it now combines 4x4 abilities with more road-biased ride and handling. The new model has a stiffer chassis for improved impact protection, and an aluminium roof panel which lowers the centre of gravity to increase the car's composure in corners.
Most of the American model features will be retained for buyers in the UK, including a split tailgate and the potential for seven seats, with the third row stowed flat under the rear floor.
North American buyers will have the option of a front-wheel-drive version, but Mitsubishi currently has no plans to offer it to UK buyers.
Full details of the UK range won't be released until October 2007, but we do know that the new Outlander will be available with a choice of two VW-derived engine options: a 2.0-litre turbodiesel and a normally aspirated 2.4-litre petrol.
The 3.0 V6 will only available on the American model and the front grille (pictured) is to undergo a redesign before the car is released into the European market.
