The new Porsche 911 GT3 has been unveiled on the eve of the Geneva motor show and will go on sale in the autumn.

The fastest version of the latest-generation 911 is powered by a naturally aspirated 468bhp 3.8-litre direct injection engine that's mated to Porsche's seven-speed double-clutch semi-automatic PDK gearbox.

Although the engine is based on the six-cylinder unit from the 911 Carrera S, the GT3's engine and gearbox have been adapted for the track-day car.

Lightweight construction and the new engine and gearbox help the GT3 go from 0-62mph in just 3.5 seconds – a second faster than the Carrera S – and on to a top speed of 195mph.

The 911 GT3 now gets active rear-wheel steering, which – depending on the car's speed – steers the rear wheels in the opposite or the same direction as the front wheels to improve agility and stability.

The rear axle is wider and there's an updated version of the previous car's dynamic engine mount system, which helps to minimise engine movement under heavy acceleration and rapid cornering.

The stripped-out interior comes with part Alcantara sports seats, along with climate control and an MP3-compatible stereo.
