Kia will launch an all-new version of its
Rio into the fiercely competitive supermini market this October.
The newcomer is taller and wider than its predecessor but also shorter. Whereas the old model sat uncomfortably between superminis and small family hatchbacks in size, the new one takes on rivals such as the
Ford Fiesta head-to-head.
Not that this means it’s smaller inside. The wheelbase has been stretched by 90mm and the interior packaging improved so that both front and rear occupants get more headroom and legroom than before.
To start with, the Rio will only be sold in the UK as a five-door hatchback from around £8500. A four-door saloon will go on sale in Europe, but will not be offered here because of limited demand. There are no plans for a three-door hatchback, but a convertible with a folding metal roof may follow.
