The face-lifted Saab 9-3 will go on sale this September from £18,575.
The new 9-3 is designed to look sportier than the model it replaces. It includes a chrome front grille, redesigned front wings, a new bonnet, new headlights featuring a strip of LEDs, new tail lights, new door skins and sill extensions.
Three new engines will be added to the range: a twin-turbocharged 180bhp 1.9-litre diesel, an uprated turbocharged 280hp 2.8-litre V6 petrol engine and a 175bhp bioethanol engine, adapted from the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine currently available. The new 1.9-litre diesel will be available from December.
From January 2008, the Aero Sport Saloon and Sport Wagon models will feature a new all-wheel-drive system that Saab calls XWD. It automatically switches pulling power between the front and rear wheels whenever necessary.
Buyers also have the option of upgrading the XWD system to eLSD, which uses a rear electronic limited-slip differential to transfer power between the wheels in slippery conditions.
Prices for the Saab 9-3 saloon start from £18,575. Sport Wagon cars cost from £19,575 and convertibles from £25,975. Depending on body style, these are increases of between around £900-£1400.
