BMW is offering an upgrade package for four-cylinder cars in its 1, 3 and 5 Series ranges, as well as in the Z4.

BMW says the upgrade, called 'Edition', offers greater colour choices and interior options, as well as more equipment.

1 Series
The upgrade applies to 116i and 118d ES 1 Series models, and costs £250 over the standard ES model, but brings £1340-worth of equipment.

For your money, you get 17-inch alloy wheels, sports seats in an upgraded cloth, multifunction steering wheel and front foglights.

3 Series
You can buy the Edition upgrade to all four-cylinder 3 Series saloon and Touring models in ES, SE or M Sport guises.

In Edition ES and SE models, the upgrade costs £750 more than the standard car, but you get around £3000 of extra equipment, BMW says.

That includes a choice of Carbon Black, Titanium Silver or Sparkling Graphite colours, as well as leather upholstery and brushed aluminium interior trim. You also get 17-inch alloy wheels and a multifunction leather steering wheel.

Edition M Sport buyers can have the same colours and leather upholstery, but they also get a satellite-navigation system, Bluetooth telephone connectivity and BMW's new ConnectedDrive Online and Assist telematics package as standard.

M Sport models with the upgrade costs £1000 more than the standard car, but offer £3100-worth of equipment.

5 Series
For £350, buyers of 520d saloon and Touring models can get a satellite-navigation system worth £1365, as well as a six-CD changer worth £295.

BMW Z4
The Edition upgrade is available on 2.0i Exclusive and Sport models.

Edition Exclusive models come in a range of colours - Sapphire Black, Stratus Grey, Space Grey, Titan Silver or Montego Blue, and there are also 17-inch alloy wheels.

In the cabin, there's full leather upholstery and a high-gloss Piano Black interior trim.

There is said to be £1835-worth of extra equipment in Edition Exclusive cars for a £1045 premium over the standard Exclusive car.

Edition Sport buyers can expect the same exterior colour choices, but there are 18-inch alloy wheels and leather-covered sports seats. It costs £775 more than the standard Sport model, but adds about £2500 of options to the car.

All edition models will begin production in March.
