Nissan shakes up its X-Trail range in January with new model names and more equipment, but identical prices.

The entry-level SE model is the only model to retain the same name and continues to cost from £16,500 for the front-wheel drive version. Body-coloured bumpers and trim are now fitted, while diesel versions receive a toy box complete with power socket to keep kids in the back entertained.

Fold-out tables and cup holders are also found in the rear armrest, while rear-seat passengers now have reading lights and headrests with side head supports for sleeping. Alloy wheels, air-conditioning, electric windows, CD player and side airbags remain standard.

The Sport model is replaced by the Columbia, which adds tinted side windows and electrically folding door mirrors to the previous equipment list, but still costs from £20,000. Buyers also get a Columbia jacket worth £300. The 17-inch alloy wheels, electric sunroof, six-CD autochanger and roof spoiler of the Sport are still fitted.

The top-of-the-range X-Trail is now the Aventura. It replaces the SVE and T-Spec models, but, although it takes equipment from both models, it costs no more than the the old SVE model at £22,000.

The equipment list is long, and includes electrically adjustable and heated leather seats and DVD satellite navigation. Only the roof-mounted spotlights, previously found on the T-Spec, are missing. These join the options list for £350.
