Vauxhall has added a powerful Biturbo diesel engine to its Astra hatchback and Astra Sports Tourer ranges.
The new Vauxhall Astra Biturbo models have a twin-turbo 2.0-litre diesel engine that develops 192bhp; it makes them the most powerful - and quickest models in the Astra hatch and Sports Tourer ranges. Both bodystyles manage the 0-60mph dash in less than eight seconds.
In either hatchback or Sports Tourer forms, CO2 emissions are 134g/km and average fuel economy is 55.4mpg. An engine stop/start system is standard.
Just the one trim level is offered, labelled simply Biturbo, and it's well equipped. It comes with several bespoke features, including 18-inch alloy wheels, twin rear exhausts, an exterior styling pack and alloy sports pedals.
Vauxhall already offers the Biturbo engine in the three-door Astra GTC, and hatchback and estate versions of the Insignia.
The Astra Biturbo and Astra Sports Tourer are both available to order now; the 5dr hatchback costs £24,095 and the estate costs £25,110. First deliveries are expected in late 2012.
