This is the new Vauxhall Astra Estate, which goes on sale in the UK this October. It will cost from around £17,000.
Although it shares the same wheelbase as the Astra hatchback, it has 500 litres OF space with the seats in place, 30 litres more than the hatch. Fold the seats down – at the press of a button depending on trim level – and there's a flat loadbay with up to 1550 litres of carrying capacity.
That's substantially more than the Ford Focus Estate, and a little better than a VW Golf, although it still can't match the room of the Skoda Octavia Estate.
Petrol engines are the 99bhp 1.4, 114bhp 1.6 and 138bhp 1.4 Turbo, which returns an average of 45.6mpg and has CO2 emissions of just 145g/km. Diesel buyers can pick from 1.7-litre engines rated at 109 or 124bhp, while there's also a 158bhp 2.0-litre.
An engine stop-start-equipped 94bhp 1.3-litre diesel Ecoflex model will arrive soon after.
The Astra Estate will be built at Ellesmere Port in the UK and was engineered in Bedfordshire. Like the hatch, it will have steering and suspension settings unique to the UK.
