If you want a fast Clio but the 197 Renaultsport is too much, a new 136bhp version could be the answer.
The Clio Dynamique S 138 is powered by a 2.0-litre engine and, at £12,810, undercuts rivals like the Ford Fiesta ST and Peugeot 207 GT Turbo 1.6.
The new edition has a 0-62mph time of 8.5secs and a top speed of 127mph - a little slower than the Ford, but a little quicker than the Peugeot.
Standard kit includes air conditioning, 16-inch alloy wheels, wider front wings, hands-free keycard, reach adjustable steering, part-leather upholstery, leather steering wheel, and front and rear carpet mats. There's also a Dynamique S 138-specific paint option - Nocturne, a deep purple. Five-door and automatic versions will be available in 2007.
A sportier GT version to bridge the gap between the 138 and 197 Clios is also rumoured. It could produce up to 150bhp and is thought to have stiffened suspension and styling tweaks.
