Toyota has released the first pictures of its all-new Yaris and RAV4 models, both due to be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2005 on September 13.
Toyota promises the new Yaris will have higher levels of comfort, quality and safety than the current car. It will also offer greater interior space to distinguish it from the new Aygo city car, which sits beneath the Yaris in Toyota’s model line up.
Prices and engine details have yet to be confirmed but Toyota insiders have hinted that the 1.0-litre petrol unit will be carried over from the existing Yaris, with another petrol and diesel engine also joining the range.
The new Yaris will hit UK showrooms in January 2006, and we expect prices to start at around £7500 for the entry-level three-door version.
The third-generation RAV4 will also be on display at Frankfurt, and will go on sale here in spring 2006. It has consistently been one of the UK’s best-selling 4x4s, along with its key rivals, the Land Rover Freelander and Honda CR-V.
Toyota says the RAV4 will have more equipment and improved interior space and quality than the current model. A new higher-powered diesel will be added to the RAV4 range, which is likely to be Toyota’s new 2.2-litre D-4D unit. This can be tuned to deliver 134bhp or 175bhp.
