There's a good chance that this sporty Urge coupe concept from Nissan will make it into production.

The company has already spent two years developing it with a global market in mind, but its future depends on a positive reception at the Detroit Motor Show, where it will be unveiled in January.

Although based upon the 350Z platform, the Urge would be a smaller, more affordable entry-level car to rival the likes of the Mazda MX-5.

Nissan has said the car would use a six-speed manual gearbox, but isn't revealing much else, only describing the engine as a small and high-revving unit.

The doors have clear sections to give a greater sensation of speed, while roof panels are also removable – but whether either of these would be used in production cars is unclear.

Nissan's earlier Azeal concept might also provide some clues on what a future coupe positioned below its 350Z might look like.
