Nissan has at last confirmed that its upmarket Infiniti brand will arrive in the UK in 2008.

In the same way that Lexus is the luxury arm of Toyota, Infiniti is intended to rival top-end manufacturers such as BMW. Nissan has been planning the introduction of the brand to Europe for some time, but wanted to wait until new diesel engines were available.

European customers are more interested in diesels than customers in Japan, the US, and the Middle East, where the cars are currently sold.

Difficulties in establishing a dealer network to sell and service the cars also delayed the launch. More details of how the network will operate will be announced closer to the brand's arrival.

Final confirmation of the line-up will have to wait, too, but the Fuga (or its replacement) could well spearhead the charge. The Fuga is known in the US as the M35 and M45.

We've already driven the car, which is a rival to the BMW 3 Series and Lexus GS, so follow the links on the right to find out more.

Other Infiniti products currently available, but which will also have been updated by 2008, include stylish 4x4s such as the FX, which is very close in style and appearance to the Nissan Murano, and BMW 3 Series competitors such as the G35.
