Nissan is cracking down on companies which import cars to the UK that are only meant to go on sale in Japan.
Sought-after cars, such as Nissan's GT-R, are brought to the UK by importers with no links to Nissan and sold at marked-up prices. The GT-R is on sale in Japan, but not due to go on sale in the UK until March 2009.
However, because Nissan has not consented to these vehicles being imported into or sold in Europe, their sale infringes Nissan's trademark rights.
Now Nissan has written to importers warning them to stop bringing its cars into the UK, and is threatening to take legal action if they continue to do so.
Gary Frigo, Nissan GB's managing director, said: 'Nissan's number-one priority is to ensure that the GT-R and its dealer network are in optimum condition to support our customers. It will take until the start of sales in March 2009 to do this.
'Until that time, the UK will have no GT-R-trained technicians, no established GT-R parts supply and, most crucial of all, the GT-R will not be covered by a manufacturer's warranty.'
