Nissan's latest supercar, the GT-R, is setting new records on and off the track.
It has just become the fastest production car to lap the notorious 13-mile Nurburgring circuit in Germany, while the queue of people wanting to buy one in the UK now stretches to an unprecedented two years.
The GT-R is a two-plus-two coupe, with power coming from a 480bhp twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6 engine that drives all four wheels through a six-speed, twin-clutch paddle-shift gearbox.
In the hands of test driver Tochio Suzuki, it has just lapped the Nurburgring in 7 minutes 29 seconds, beating the long-standing previous record, held by a Porsche 911 GT2, by three seconds.
The record-breaking GT-R was a standard production model running on normal road tyres.
In the UK, more than 1000 people have now put down a £3500 deposit for one. The total European order bank, including the UK, is only 1400.
With the £52,900 car not due in this country until March 2009, it means that some people could be waiting until 2011 to get their hands on what they have bought.
