A more powerful Micra supermini is now available from Nissan.
The 160SR uses a 109bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine and at £9995 is just £345 more than the entry-level model, the 88bhp 1.4-litre.
Accelerating from rest to 62mph in 9.8sec, the 160R is more than two seconds faster than the 1.4-litre car, and should also provide better in-gear acceleration thanks to extra pulling power.
Nissan is keen to point out that the newcomer’s sprint time is also better than a £10,780 Mini One, an £11,195 Citroen C2 VTR and an £11,595 Ford Fiesta Zetec S.
A body kit with front, side and rear spoilers, front foglamps, alloy wheels and tinted headlights all help to make the Micra look a little meaner to compete with these rivals.
Other additional equipment includes curtain airbags, stability control and aluminium pedals. As with the standard Micra a CD player and air-conditioning are also fitted.
Production will be limited to 1600 cars a year.
