Nissan Qashqai

Nissan has updated its Qashqai and Qashqai +2 models, with a new diesel engine and extra standard equipment.

The new 1.6 dCi engine replaces the previous 2.0 dCi. Peak power is down from 148to 128bhp, but there’s the same 236lb ft of torque, available at 1750rpm, rather than 2000rpm. Nissan hasn’t released full performance figures, but says the 1.6 dCi has a quicker 30-50mph acceleration figure than the 2.0 dCi.

Fuel economy has improved by 31%, rising (for Qashqai versions) from 47.9mpg to 57.6mpg. CO2 emissions – compared with the 2.0 dCi – have dropped from 155g/km to 129g/km.

Early in 2012 Nissan will launch a version with an engine stop-start system, which will have CO2 emissions of 119g/km and average fuel economy of 62.8mpg.

Prices for the new models are £250 lower than the equivalent 2.0 dCi models, ranging from £19,495 for the 1.6 dCi Visia to £25,295 for the 1.6 dCi 4WD Tekna.

Nissan has also added its Around View Monitor as standard equipment for Tekna versions of the Qashqai and Qashqai +2. The system uses a set of external cameras to create a 360-degree view of the car to help with parking manoeuvres. The driver can focus on any camera to look out for a particular obstacle.

The updated Qashqai models are available to order now, with first deliveries expected in October.
