Nissan's technology of the future - Introduction

Nissan has announced a raft of technological, environmental and safety initiatives that it will introduce over the coming years.

They ranged from a prototype electric vehicle, which will go on sale in 2010 and reach the UK by 2012, and which you can read about by clicking here, to more basic systems such as motorised seat belt tensioners, which tighten up as the car detects the severity of an accident.

To emphasise that these were genuine initiatives rather than pie-in-the-sky ideas to generate some positive headlines, What Car? was allowed to try several of them at one of Nissan's test facilities in Yokohama, Japan.
