No good places to drive in UK, poll says

  • Half of UK drivers can't name inspiring roads
  • Vast majority cite traffic as being to blame
  • A591 in Lake District voted best road

Traffic is the reason most people think there are no enjoyable roads any more

Britain's roads are so busy that almost half of drivers can't name a great place to drive, according to a new survey.

84% of people interviewed in a survey for sat-nav manufacturer Garmin said endless traffic jams are to blame. Other causes included accidents, boring scenery and confusing road signs.

One in three people thought the M25 was the worst road in Britain, while London was voted the worst city for driving in because of its confusing road signs, one-way systems and constant roadworks.

However, the best road to go on for a drive was the A591 between Keswick and Lake Windermere in the Lake District, closely followed by the A82 between Glasgow and Fort William in Scotland.
