North vs South: which really is cheaper? - Our verdict

08 February 2008
Cars are cheaper in the northern half of the UK, but you don't automatically save a packet once you pass Watford Gap.

In some cases it might only be a few hundred pounds and, by the time you've travelled north, it might not be worth the hassle.

There can even be discrepancies in the price of similar cars for sale in the same region. Car supermarkets tend to be cheap, and offer consistent prices across the country, so you might not have to travel far to bag a serious bargain.

Make sure you don't get tempted to buy the first car you see and shop around to get the best deal.
