Our cars: Mini Coupe - November
Week ending November 18
Current mileage 4365

My first long motorway journey in the Mini (London to Bristol and back) highlighted one of the car’s weakest points – motorway refinement. Or rather, the lack of it.
The engine sounds great when you’re getting up to speed, but it drones away noisily once you’re there. The tyres kick up a lot of road noise, too, so your ears get a battering from all directions.
I’m only glad I decided to add the Harman Kardon speaker upgrade to my car at a cost of £550. It makes the stereo sound brilliant, and it’s more than loud enough to drown out the noise of the car.

With its stripy paintjob, bold detailing and slinky lines, our Mini Coupe is a great-looking car. However, I reckon I’ve found a way to make it look even better.
The car has a rear spoiler that raises electrically at 55mph, and drops again when your speed dips below 30mph. However, there’s a switch inside that lets you raise the wing whenever you want, and I find myself hitting it a lot.
To my eye, the spoiler gives the car much more visual impact – it makes the back end look shorter and beefier, which gives the whole car a far more purposeful appearance.
