The Giulietta isn't as practical as many rivals, but it satisfied my needs this week. I needed to transport two (fairly small) armchairs and, with a bit of effort, managed to squeeze them both in. It would have been much easier if the rear seats folded totally flat and the boot entrance was larger, however.

An early winter sunset revealed a strange quirk in the Guilietta with the sun-visor this week.

Wanting to shield my eyes I tried tilting the visor away from me at about a 45 degree angle.

Strangely it didn’t grip, meaning the only options for cutting out the glare were to have the visor all the way to the windscreen, where it was next to useless, or at a 90-degree horizontal angle that cut almost all visibility.

I was excited to be thrown the keys to our Giulietta for the first time this week, and whether I was walking up to or away from it, I couldn’t help but stare. It’s gorgeous.

The comfy seats, fantastic stereo and the well-designed dash made it even more satisfying. Unfortunately, on the move I found it less appealing.

Our 140bhp diesel version is no slouch, but it wasn't quiet when pushed. The gearchange is snappy too, but the heavy clutch and jerky throttle response made the Alfa hard work around town.

When you lock or open the Giulietta, it emits extremely loud beeps. This is fine, I suppose, if you are trying to find the Alfa in a busy car park, but when you get home late at night it's not good. I've woken up the baby, the neighbour's dog and probably half the street just locking the **** thing.
