Kia Carens 1.7 CRDi 2
Week ending September 27
Miles this week 700
In a strange twist of fate, the Kia Carens was the third seven-seater that I have driven in the last couple of weeks. First up was a second-hand VW Touran, then came the Kia, closely followed by a Vauxhall Zafira.
In truth, I don't need a seven-seater but with lots of nieces and nephews and two boys of my own, one would offer some flexibility for extended family trips, so the car hunt began.
The Carens looked good and didn’t drive badly at all, and the rear two seats pop up out of the boot floor when needed, which is a nice touch. Unfortunately, although the Kia range does offer excellent value, the Carens was a little out of our modest price bracket.
I have ended up buying a 2008-plate, SRi spec, low-mileage Vauxhall Zafira. I will admit to wondering if I will miss the Carens' sheer quantity of gadgets and buttons, as well as the decent trim level and looks that didn’t scream ‘family-wagon’, but as they say, beggars can’t be choosers.
