Women complain more than men about their cars and are less satisfied with their motoring experiences, new research has found.

A study of 15,000 motorists by JD Power for whatcar.com sister-site evecars.com found that are women were consistently less satisfied than men across every area studied in the 70-question eight-page survey.

They complained more often - on average 212 times compared with men's 191 - and notched up a satisfaction rating of 78.3%, 1.3% lower than their male counterparts.

JD Power's Dave Sargent says part of the explanation may lie in the fact that men tend to drive more expensive cars, while women are more often behind the wheel of non-premium models.

Clinical psychologist Professor Lorraine Sherr has an alternative theory. She said: 'Women are more discerning buyers than men, who tend to be easily pleased.'
