Online poll to scrap MoT proposals

Motorists are being urged to sign a petition calling for the Government to abandon proposals to change the frequency of the MoT test.
The Government is considering scrapping the current annual test in favour of a bi-annual car examination, but the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation argues that such a move would compromise road safety.
In a petition posted on a government website it claims: 'Annual testing is a vital part of keeping the UK's cars safe, roadworthy and environmentally compliant.
'Any reduction in testing would lead to increased road casualties (deaths and serious injuries), increased pollution, and have employment consequences.'

The petition comes hot on the heels of an AA survey of its members this summer. 62% of drivers questioned believed there would be more hazardous vehicles on the road if the annual MoT test was changed to every other year.
