Mercedes-Benz CLS review

I've been working in central London for most of the week, which has meant leaving the CLS at home and taking the train.

Did I miss the CLS? Definitely. This morning, instead of having to wait on a cold platform for the delayed 7.32 to King's Cross, I slipped into the rapidly warming driver's seat, turned up the stereo and public transport soon became a distant memory.

It's not all good news, though. I've noticed one of the AMG alloys has been damaged by a colleague, so the CLS has been booked in for repairs next week.

There are few cabins I'd rather be in than the CLS's, especially when it's dark and wet outside, and there are 60 miles between you and home.

For a start, it's supremely comfortable thanks to the widely adjustable driving position and the soft yet supportive seat. On top of that, everything you can see and touch is classy and beautifully finished.

Good visibility for a low-slung saloon and powerful xenon headlamps are other pluses, as is the calming 'mood' lighting that bathes the cabin with a soft glow.

I'm not convinced about our CLS's ride and engine refinement, but the interior is a work of genius.
