Our cars: Volvo S60 - September

25 January 2011
Week ending September 30
Mileage: 14,000
Miles this week: 220

Since I spend at least two (sometimes three) hours a day in the car, having a fuss-free experience with the radio is essential. So it’s a shame that’s not the case with the S60.

The radio works perfectly along my route on the M40 – I can’t fault it, and the sound is pretty good, too.

However, between the M40/M25 junction and the end of the M3, I’m constantly twiddling the tuner to get rid of the buzzing from the poor reception. I wouldn’t mind so much if I’d had the same problem in other cars, but I haven’t.

If Volvo really wants to compete with the premium brands, it needs to make sure build quality runs from front to back – including the boot. We keep forgetting that the handle inside the boot is loose, only for it to come adrift yet again. Also, shutting the Volvo’ boot with one tug should be an Olympic sport – it’s nigh on impossible!
