Volvo S60 2.0 D3 SE Premium Mileage 3400 Two days after the first heavy snowfall of winter I decided enough was enough and got a set of winter tyres fitted to our Volvo. The option is open to any Volvo owner through the company’s dealer network – not cheap at £1200 for our car, plus another £170 to have the out-of-season tyres stored – but worth it for the shorter stopping distances and better low-temperature grip. Volvo reckons you can pull up eight metres shorter at 30mph in snow and 11 metres earlier at 20mph on ice. Experience so far suggests that those figures are spot on.
