Paris motor show report - Ford C-Max and Grand C-Max

29 September 2010
Ford is using Paris to show off the whole new C-Max family, including the Grand C-Max and an electric model.

The two main models are designed to appeal to different types of buyer. The regular five-seat C-Max is for younger single buyers, as well as older 'empty-nest' parents, while the seven-seat Grand C-Max is for young families.

We've already driven the five-seat model, and it retains the fine handling characteristics' of the outgoing car. However, the Grand C-Max is expected to take the bulk of sales – around 60% – with its family-friendly features, such as sliding rear side doors, proving a big draw.

It's only a matter of weeks before the new C-Max family goes on sale, and prices start at £18,745, some £1700 more than the model it replaces.

There's also a hint of a Ford electrified future, with the C-Max PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) that's due to go on sale in Europe from 2013.

Anything else?
There's also the face-lifted Mondeo here in Paris, with the five-door hatchback and estate versions on display.

The most obvious changes centre on the car's styling inside and out, but they also extend to new engines, as well as a host of new comfort, convenience and safety features.

Changes include new grilles, a revised bonnet profile and LED daytime running lights. Along the side, there's a new full-chrome window surround on higher-spec models, while the rear has larger, new-look LED tail-lights.

The cabin uses new higher-quality materials, with a new look to the centre console, and flush, integrated release mechanisms in the doors. In keeping with the higher-quality feel to the interior, there are high-class trims and new 'jewel' detailing on switches and vents in satin chrome.

The Mondeo went on sale in September.
